A motion theater piece based on the novel RAUM by Emma Donoghue
Jack lives with his ma, who has been kidnapped, in a room he has never left. Their routine daily life is characterized by minimalism, creativity and an intimate relationship with each other. Over time, however, Ma begins to tell Jack about the outside world in order to plan another escape attempt. Jack successively tries to understand the world: There are other people besides Ma and himself? Everything shown on the TV is real? Despite all his efforts, the world may not fit into his head. For Jack, it’s clear: He doesn’t want to get out. He likes it in the room.
Emma Donoghue was born in Dublin in 1969. Since the age of 23, she has been writing novels, works of literary history, fairy tales, short stories, radio plays, stage plays and screenplays.
